The Alumni Pavilion on the WCSU Westside campus

The purpose of the Association is to develop and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between Western Connecticut State University and its alumni by fostering a welcoming atmosphere for future and existing alumni; raising awareness through philanthropy and fundraising; and building lasting relationships among alumni, students, staff, and the greater Danbury community; and celebrating and honoring alumni. We offer trips and programs throughout the year and ask that alumni be a part of the university community. Watch for your weekly WOW (What's on at Western) to see the happenings on campus and look for your special WCSU discounts offereed to alumni.

We are inviting alumni to join in our New Student Orientation. We are looking for alumni representatives from each class to help welcome our incoming freshman class to the university during the “Entering the Gates” Ceremony on:

Friday, August 24, on the WCSU Midtown Campus

The time has almost arrived for the start of another year and, of course, that means talking about the Entering the Gates Ceremony which will be held on Friday, August 24.  This year’s program will be a bit different than past years in that there will not be an Opening Ceremony in the Quad.  Instead, we will have a very brief ten minute ceremony just before the procession through the gates.  The schedule will be as follows:

  • 12:00pm - the Spirit Band will begin playing music as family members, faculty and staff gather at Alumni & Friends Circle.  Senior staff will lead the procession but there will be no regalia this year.  Faculty, alumni and cheerleaders will line the path from the University Gates through Alumni & Friends Circle toward the Midtown Student Center Plaza to cheer on the new students as they process through the University Gates.
  • 12:30pm brief welcome at Alumni & Friends Circle with Jay Murray and President Clark only
  • 12:45pm the procession will begin through the University Gates and Alumni & Friends Circle, past the front of the Midtown Student Center and down to the tent on the Science Building lawn for barbeque

If the weather is questionable, a decision about having the procession will be made by 11am.  If it is raining we will eliminate the procession through the University Gates in which case everyone should go directly to the tent at 12:30pm for the barbeque.  Welcome remarks by Jay Murray and President Clark will be given in the tent as soon as  everyone is settled. Once the welcome remarks are completed individual tables will be released to get their barbeque lunch.  Tickets for alumni, faculty and staff will be available at the Midtown Student Center Information Desk starting at 10am on the 24th.  I will send out a more detailed e-mail shortly to senior staff who will be leading the procession.  Thank you.

Don't forget we also want an Alumni Legacy Photo. Are you a parent or family member of a new student and also a WestConn alumnus? If so, please join us for an alumni legacy photo to be taken on the front steps of Old Main at 11:30 a.m.

Class Notes publishes the highlights of your career, the awards you receive and the events you participate in that enhance your life. We also provide the names of the alumni we have lost and the reasons for celebrating: marriages and births.

Has life landed you around the corner, or on the other side of the globe? Have you embarked on family life or decided to start your own business? Let us know at alumni@wcsu.edu and it will be added here and on the alumni Facebook page.
